About our Services
CAFT offers product and process development services on a fee for service basis. The personnel at the Food Development and Manufacturing Center have many years experience working in the development laboratories of the world’s largest food companies. We work with entrepreneurs as well as large global companies and help bring their product concepts to fruition. We take products from the concept stage to commercialization or can provide assistance for specific activities as requested by the client.
Working together
We discuss the need for executing Rutgers standard Non-Disclosure Agreement and then proceed to discuss your product concept. We agree on the scope of the work and prepare a draft proposal for your comment. We like to work in phases ---prototype development, product optimization and finally commercialization. We agree on fees and out of pocket expenses for each phase in our iterative development process.
In order to start the process a Request for Development Proposal must be submitted. While the product is very important, your business plan and ability to gain distribution for your product is equally important, thus a few rudimentary business related questions are included.
Areas of Expertise
We provide project management from prototype development through scale up and commercialization. We assist with regulatory issues, nutritional labeling and provide quality programs including HACCP plans.
Product categories include beverages, soups, retorted meals, baked goods, ice cream, salad dressings and functional foods.
Our extensive network of suppliers, consultants, Rutgers faculty and personal contacts enable us to assist with a wide array of products. Our business model and facility are flexible allowing us to accommodate many different situations.
