The Center for Advanced Food Technology (CAFT) is an active participant in the Combat Ration ManTech Program of the Defense Logistics Agency and has operated the Combat Ration Demonstration Facility, an approved FDA/USDA canning Facility since 1991 at their Food Development and Manufacturing Facility in Piscataway, NJ.
DLA ManTech program focuses on modernizing the manufacturing base for combat ration production to decrease cost, improve quality and increase surge capacity. Under this Combat Ration ManTech program CAFT has executed more than 50 Short Term Projects in areas such as developing advanced manufacturing technologies, improving quality assurance techniques, developing process control strategies, implementing computer integrated manufacturing and executing product improvement projects, indicating CAFT’s ability to address a wide range of R&D needs of the ration manufacturers.
CAFT makes its Food Development and Manufacturing Facility and this expertise also available to the general food manufacturing base via its CAFT’s Technology Extension Program (CTEP) and has assisted numerous small to large food manufacturers in product and process development projects including small scale production runs to generate consumer test samples.
